Territorial Expansion of the United States:

Oversaw the addition of over 800,000 square miles to U.S. territory, including the Oregon Territory (settled with Britain in 1846) and land acquired from Mexico after the Mexican-American War through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. This included modern-day California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Colorado and Wyoming.

Lowering Tariffs (Walker Tariff of 1846):
